To survive is to maintain one’s territory. It is an act of protecting the place you chose as your home. If you decide not to perform any action, invaders will come out of nowhere, slowly permeate into your place, and shrink up your home. It is impossible to be completely harmless. The ooze that comes out of a wounded pine tree will flow only to stop any further harm to its body, but it may brutally drown the insects that were crawling on the tree.
To protect the ones they love, fortresses have been built. A fortress that cannot move is a clear threat to the ones who attempt to invade their land and expand their territory. There can be no excuse for being harmful to one another. Maintaining one’s place can be a horrible thing to the people who have lived outside the privileged region. The peaceful tree rigidly takes up an amount of space, relentlessly persecuting the ants.
