'Ants of the Stone Age' is the name of the music band I am in. In 2017, I met a friend who owned a pub. The pub 'Stone 9' barely had customers. He had no intention of earning money. It was simply his dream to own a pub filled with rock music, alcohol, and friends. Eventually, he had to end the business, but we alcoholics met once a week in other pubs. We talked about our favourite bands' new release, and how the drum sound is amazing in a song, or go to the karaoke. One day, he told me that he had written a song and asked me if I could sing it. And that was the start of our band.
Writing songs became our new obsession: a new motivation to survive in my depressing alcoholic days. I knew nothing about writing songs, but I was fond of writing poems and lyrics. Instead of starting with an instrumental sound and adding melodies and lyrics to it, we created songs the opposite way. I would write a piece of text, add melodies to it, and my friend would create instrumental sounds that suit the text and melody.
To me, Ants of the Stone Age is something that forced me to live in a certain period of my life. And sometimes it still forces me to continue life.
